What is Belly Dance, and who really does this?

Raks Sharqi, otherwise known as belly dance in our country, is an art form based on folk dance, which means it is a dance for everybody . There are no age or size restrictions for this class, just a willingness and desire to dance joyfully.

Our class sessions focus on the history of the dance, and cultural information, as well as the basic movements used in Belly Dance.  Each class begins with a Yoga-based warm-up, and we spend time learning basic moves used in the dance.  All of our classes will incorporate the basic principles of Pilates to teach you to engage all of your abdominal muscles as you move like an Egyptian.  At the end of twelve weeks, expect to know a short dance you can perform for yourself or others, and expect to have a wealth of information on a variety of cultures.

Nadira (Christie Hill) will be your instructor.  With over 13 years of Belly Dance experience, Christie has studied with several instructors in Egyptian, Tribal, Turkish, and Folk dance.  In 2007, Nadira completed "Sharing the Art We Love" Bellydance Instructor Certification through Qadria.  In addition to teaching dance, Nadira can be found performing at private parties and multi-cultural events.  Her next performance will be at Shimmy for a Cause in Wilson, NC on March 29th.

Classes are offered in 12 week sessions, and are limited to 10 participants.  Current classes are held Monday night at 8pm, and Tuesday mornings at 11 for 75 minutes.

Our next session begins April 28 & 29th, so please call to pre-register!
